About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides medical-surgical nursing care, using the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate care. The role engages patients and families throughout the care continuum, monitors patient conditions, adjusts care plans, mobilizes resources, and collaborates with the care team to influence outcomes. The nurse may administer medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with clinical protocols and procedures, and maintains accurate, timely electronic health record documentation. This is a flexible resource role with self-scheduled work, covering day-to-day floating or six-week float assignments. The nurse may float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient care needs. Support locations include Zone 4 sites—Condell, Good Shepherd, Sherman, Lutheran, and Masonic—or Zone 5 sites—Good Samaritan, Christ, Trinity, South Suburban, and Masonic. The role promotes safety, evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes, and contributes to unit councils, professional governance, quality initiatives, and evidence-based practice. The nurse communicates effectively, resolves conflicts, delegates appropriately, follows the ANA Code of Ethics, respects interdisciplinary roles, pursues professional development, completes required education, and maintains certifications. Care must be appropriate to the ages and developmental needs of patients served. The position requires frequent physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, reaching, and twisting. It may involve exposure to hazardous materials, blood and body fluids, and communicable diseases, requiring protective equipment as appropriate.
