About The Position

The Registered Nurse will support the Neuro ICU at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center – University Hospital. The unit cares for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhages, seizures, neuromuscular diseases such as myasthenia gravis and Guillain-Barré syndrome, meningitis, and post-operative neurosurgical needs, including spinal surgery, craniotomies, and cerebrovascular surgery. Bedside procedures performed in the unit include tracheostomy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), central-line and arterial-line placement, and external ventricular drain (EVD) placement.

The role requires strong neuro experience and at least two years of experience. The nurse must hold ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications and have the skills listed in the requirements. The position includes an every-other-weekend requirement and may require floating to different units within the OSU organization as needed.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience.
• Strong neuro experience.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
• Required skills: SCREEN first-time travelers; Neuro Intensive Care Unit; interpretation of dysrhythmias; management of dysrhythmias; obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG; IV insulin protocols; accessing/managing ports; arterial-line management; and blood product administration.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing support in the Neuro ICU at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center – University Hospital.
• Care for patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions, including strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhages, seizures, neuromuscular diseases, meningitis, and post-operative neurosurgical needs.
• Perform or support bedside procedures, including tracheostomy, PEG, central-line and arterial-line placement, and EVD placement.
• Float to different units within the OSU organization as needed.
• Work every other weekend.
