About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols. The role involves implementing and monitoring patient care plans, monitoring and documenting patient conditions, and communicating relevant updates. The nurse coordinates care across disciplines, carries out physician and nursing orders, and works with the healthcare team to assess and coordinate patients’ discharge planning needs.

The MICU is part of UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham. The posting describes a team-focused environment with accessible patient care supervisors on weekdays and visible leadership. Requirements

• BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
• Advanced Life Support certification obtained within 180 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing, obtained before hire or job transfer.
• Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing.
• Required professional licensure at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Coordinate care as the primary coordinator across disciplines.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
