About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols. The position is part-time, with day or night schedules from 7 to 7, at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham.

The MICU team emphasizes cohesion, accessible leadership, and support for learning. The department welcomes new graduates and describes a teaching culture in which team members are not left to manage tasks alone.

Requirements

• Alabama Registered Nurse credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing, obtained before the hire or job-transfer date.
• Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing, along with required professional licensure at the time of hire.
• BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of the hire or job-transfer date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Advanced Life Support certification obtained within 180 days of the hire or job-transfer date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Coordinate across disciplines as the primary coordinator to support well-coordinated patient care.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient discharge-planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
