About The Position

The Registered Nurse delivers patient care using the nursing process: collecting data and assessing patients, identifying and prioritizing problems and needs, and evaluating the process and outcomes of care. The nurse coordinates, provides, and directs patient teaching and coordinates care delivered by members of the health team. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team, the nurse conducts initial and ongoing assessments, analyzes assessment data, creates and implements plans of care, and evaluates treatment effectiveness. The role administers medications safely in accordance with applicable nursing practice requirements and organizational policies, coordinates patients’ care across hospital departments, advocates for patient safety through ongoing quality improvement, and incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery.

Requirements

Valid nursing license from the state of practice.
Associate degree in nursing or a nursing diploma.
BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; at BSMH it is preferred at hire and required before independent patient care.
Knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and future innovations.
Nursing judgment and skill based on biological, physical, behavioral, and social sciences.
Ability to apply the nursing process in patient care delivery and coordinate care.
Ability to evaluate professional nursing practice to optimize goals and outcomes.
Skills in health teaching, health promotion, patient advocacy, and partnership.

Responsibilities
