About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Medical Surgical Department at Texas Health Allen provides nursing care to patients in a 25-bed, fast-paced, high-volume unit. Patients include post-surgical cases—orthopedic, spine, plastics, and general surgery—as well as general medical overflow. The professional nurse demonstrates understanding of basic human needs and delivers care using the Nursing Process. This is a PRN night position with rotating weekends and holidays required. The nurse works with an engaged leadership team and a strong Unit Based Council.

Requirements

Nursing diploma or associate degree from an accredited nursing program.
One year of experience as a registered nurse, or completion of an RN residency program.
Registered Nurse (RN) license upon hire.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) before providing independent patient care, maintained quarterly.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training within 60 days.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
One year of medical-surgical experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Deliver patient care utilizing the Nursing Process.
Assess patients.
Plan patient care.
Intervene as appropriate.
Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
Incorporate age-specific safety and infection-control measures into patient care.
Initiate action to meet patients’ and/or significant others’ information needs.
Maintain continuity of patient care across shifts and hospitals, and while expediting out-of-hospital transfers.
