About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to students and supports their efforts to attain a healthy lifestyle in a caring, professional environment that promotes their physical and emotional well-being. The role also identifies health and wellness opportunities for student educational programs. The nurse provides treatment and medical assistance, documents care in the Electronic Medical Record system, and administers medications, immunizations, and health screenings. The position supports coordination of Health Services staff and clinic operations, vaccine and medical-supply management, infectious illness response, student health programs, and educational initiatives. It also assists with medical documentation compliance, department policies and procedures, and communications with students.

Requirements

Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school.
Registered Nurse license with the ability to practice in New York State.
CPR and first aid certification.
Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification, or ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
NYS Infection Control Course completion, or ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
Ability to use an Electronic Medical Record system.
Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated organizational, time-management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction and effectively in a team.
Sound judgment and decision-making, with confidentiality and discretion.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime on nights and weekends as required by business needs.
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, use a computer for extended periods, respond physically to ill or injured students in other campus areas, transport patients in a wheelchair, and bend, stoop, and kneel.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds independently and lift patients with assistance.

Nice To Haves

One to five years of prior nursing experience.
Wound Care Certification.
Previous work experience in a school clinic setting.

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care, treatment, and medical assistance to students.
Document care in the Electronic Medical Record system and administer medications, immunizations, and health screenings.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA.
Assist with coordination of Health Services staff and activities, including CPR, medical documentation, allergy injections, and vaccinations.
Assist the Director in developing nursing staff schedules to cover clinic operating hours.
Assist the Director with routine and emergency vaccine management, including ordering, receiving, storing, updating procedures, and monitoring vaccine, medication, and medical-supply inventory.
Help manage infectious illness outbreaks and preventative precautions.
Coordinate and participate in campus and community health and wellness programs, screenings, and surveys.
Support the coordination, development, presentation, and reporting of educational programs.
Prepare monthly educational bulletin board information and contribute content to the Student Web Portal.
Assist with new-student medical documentation and communicate with students to support compliance with applicable NYS, federal, and CIA requirements before admission and while on campus.
Monitor Health Services email and respond as necessary.
Recommend revisions to department policies and Standard Operating Procedures to the Director.
Perform other duties as assigned.
