About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurses for our Vascular Stepdown Intermediate Care Unit (9K), which specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant care. This 24-bed unit brings together RNs, LPNs, Nursing Care Partners, Unit Ambassadors, and Clinical Support Associates to deliver exceptional patient care. Nurses on this unit will care for a diverse patient population and gain hands-on experience with complex vascular procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. The unit also supports patients through critical stages of care for the renal/pancreas transplant program. Every bed is monitored, allowing nurses to strengthen telemetry skills while expanding their expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing. The unit is committed to professional growth, offering specialized training and support for PCCN certification. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. This position welcomes new graduate nurses and experienced nurses new to this specialty, with an 11-week Transition to Practice program for new graduates, which is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse license required
• Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nurse license may be considered
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
• Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required
• Prior RN experience preferred
• Intermediate Care/Stepdown experience preferred
• Strong candidates with related acute care, intermediate care, cardiac, stroke, or med/surg experience are encouraged to apply
• New graduate RNs or experienced RNs with no acute care experience are encouraged to apply

Nice To Haves

• BSN or MSN preferred
• Students completing an accredited nursing program may be considered
• PCCN certification support

Responsibilities

• Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
• Adhere to the standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of care (teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
• Uphold the standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
• Utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
