About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurses for our Vascular Stepdown Intermediate Care Unit (9K), which is home to Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center. This 24-bed unit specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant care. As part of the Surgical Specialty Team, the unit brings together RNs, LPNs, Nursing Care Partners, Unit Ambassadors, and Clinical Support Associates to deliver exceptional patient care. Nurses on this unit will care for a diverse patient population and gain hands-on experience with complex vascular procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. The unit also serves as an extension of the renal/pancreas transplant program, partnering with the outpatient transplant center. Every bed is monitored, allowing nurses to strengthen telemetry skills while expanding their expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing. The unit is committed to professional growth, offering specialized training and support for PCCN certification. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. New graduate RNs are welcome to apply and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, followed by a comprehensive 6-month residency program.

Requirements

• Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required
• Registered Nurse license required
• Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nurse license may be considered
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
• New graduate RNs or experienced RNs with no acute care experience are encouraged to apply

Nice To Haves

• BSN or MSN preferred
• Students completing an accredited nursing program may be considered
• Prior RN experience preferred
• Intermediate Care/Stepdown experience preferred
• Strong candidates with related acute care, intermediate care, cardiac, stroke, or med/surg experience are encouraged to apply
