About The Position

Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Intermediate Care Unit (Stepdown) 4 East. This 24-bed IMC Unit is designed for patients who are too ill for general medical/surgical care but do not require an intensive level of care. Patients on 4E require continuous monitoring and advanced nursing interventions, including ventilator management, tracheostomy care, telemetry monitoring, heparin infusions, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and post-operative cardiac and vascular patient care. New graduate nurses and experienced nurses moving into this specialty are welcome to apply. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on orientation and skill acquisition for IMC areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • None required (for experience)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Utilize standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of care (teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Adhere to standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
  • Provide care for patients requiring continuous monitoring and advanced nursing interventions such as ventilator management, tracheostomy care, telemetry monitoring, heparin infusions, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and post-operative cardiac and vascular patient care.
