About The Position

Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Intermediate Care Unit (Stepdown) 4 East. This 24-bed IMC Unit is designed for patients who are too ill for general medical/surgical care but do not require an intensive level of care. Patients on this unit require continuous monitoring and advanced nursing interventions, including ventilator management, tracheostomy care, telemetry monitoring, heparin infusions, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and post-operative cardiac and vascular patient care. New graduate nurses are welcome to apply and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, which is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support their transition to practice. Experienced nurses moving into this specialty are also welcomed.

Requirements

  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • None required experience

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of care (teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Apply the standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Provide nursing care to patients requiring continuous monitoring and advanced nursing interventions such as ventilator management, tracheostomy care, telemetry monitoring, heparin infusions, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and post-operative cardiac and vascular patient care.
