About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse Unit Coordinator for their Vascular Stepdown Intermediate Care Unit (9K). This unit is part of Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center. The position is full-time, 36 hours per week, with a night shift from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. It requires working every other weekend and holiday rotation. The unit is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit specializing in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant care. The team includes RNs, LPNs, Nursing Care Partners, Unit Ambassadors, and Clinical Support Associates. Patients on this unit undergo complex vascular procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. The unit also supports patients from the renal/pancreas transplant program. All beds are monitored, allowing nurses to strengthen telemetry skills and expand expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing. The unit is committed to professional growth, offering specialized training and support for PCCN certification.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) or Sentara-approved Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card required within 6 months of hire
  • 18 months RN experience required
  • Demonstrates proficiency in nursing practice for assigned specialty area
