About The Position

The Inpatient Rehab RN, also referred to as a Physical Rehabilitation Registered Nurse or Physical Rehab RN, specializes in caring for patients recovering from acute or chronic illnesses, injuries, or surgeries that require rehabilitation services. The nurse helps patients regain independence, improve physical and functional abilities, and adapt to new health circumstances. The role is at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, with day shifts consisting of 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Requirements

• Current and valid state RN license.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.

Nice To Haves

• Current ACLS certificate within 30 days of hire and maintained current; preferred.
• Previous acute care hospital experience.
• Ventilator management experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to patients recovering from strokes, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, orthopedic surgeries, amputations, chronic diseases, and other conditions.
• Monitor patients’ medical status, vital signs, and responses to rehabilitation therapies.
• Administer medications, manage IVs, and provide wound care as needed.
• Assist patients with exercises, mobility training, and activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and eating, in coordination with physical and occupational therapists.
• Teach patients to use assistive devices such as walkers, prosthetics, and wheelchairs.
• Educate patients and families about rehabilitation goals, treatment plans, and long-term care strategies.
• Participate in discharge planning to help ensure patients are prepared for a safe transition to home or another care setting.
