About The Position

St. Catherine Hospital, located in Garden City, Kansas, is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The hospital has a Level II NICU with seven beds and five additional beds for pediatrics, caring for babies born at 32 weeks and above. The NICU team is cross-trained to OB postpartum and pediatrics, offering a variety of skills and experiences. The role emphasizes compassionate, high-quality patient care, strong communication, and collaboration, with a focus on being a baby's advocate and building relationships with families. The mission is to provide compassionate care to get patients healthy and home as soon as possible. The RN will facilitate, communicate, and collaborate with the healthcare team and patient/family to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, advancing nursing through compassionate care. Daily responsibilities include promoting optimal patient health, well-being, and safety through the nursing process, adhering to standards, and demonstrating personal accountability. The role requires assessing patient needs, evaluating responses, developing and implementing care plans, and demonstrating competency in various interventions. Thorough maintenance of patient records, documentation, and use of information technology are essential. The nurse will promote, advocate, and collaborate to protect patient rights and provide education to patients and families.

Requirements

At least six months of direct RN experience (for sign-on bonus eligibility)
Associates Degree in Nursing; Nursing Diploma or by endorsement
RN License in state of employment
Medium Work exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10lbs. constantly

Nice To Haves

Bachelors Degree in Nursing
One (1) year RN experience in NICU and/or Pediatrics

Responsibilities

Facilitate, communicate, and collaborate with the healthcare team and patient/family to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient.
Promote optimal patient health, well-being, and safety through the nursing process, adhering to patient care standards, guidelines, and the State Nurse Practice Act.
Demonstrate personal accountability for relationship-based care and the organizational mission.
Assess patient’s physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of medical records & clinical data.
Evaluate patient’s response and intervene to ensure optimal patient outcome.
Develop and implement patient plan of care and observe outcomes in accordance with nursing standards and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrate competency in a variety of therapeutic/diagnostic interventions including, but not limited to, IV’s, incision/wound care, medication administration, catheterization, and specimen collections.
Thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records.
Document ongoing status, interventions, patient response and outcomes in an accurate, timely manner.
Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making.
Promote, advocate, and collaborate to protect the health and safety and rights of each patient.
Provide patient/family education through assessment of patient/family learning readiness, needs, and ability.
Provide teaching and evaluate effectiveness of teaching.
