About The Position

This is a travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Plattsburgh, NY. The assignment is for 4 weeks, starting on 08/27/2026. The role involves providing direct nursing care to adult PCU patients requiring continuous telemetry monitoring, managing hemodynamic stability, and recognizing early signs of deterioration. Responsibilities include administering IV medications, initiating IV access, performing EKGs, monitoring telemetry, adjusting medications, and documenting findings in the electronic health record. The nurse will collaborate with the unit float team, coordinate transports, and escalate patient condition changes. Adherence to unit-specific procedures and maintaining a 3:1 patient ratio are expected. The role involves caring for patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome, respiratory support, heart failure, and other cardiac-related diagnoses.

Requirements

  • Active New York Registered Nurse license (current) and willing to submit license on file at time of submission.
  • BLS and ACLS required (American Heart Association); NIHSS required prior to start.
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry/step-down or equivalent cardiac unit experience.
  • Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years.
  • Ability to float to appropriate units as needed; willingness to work nights and participate in the unit’s float rotation.
  • Nursing degree from an accredited program (RN).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to adult PCU patients with continuous telemetry monitoring, maintaining hemodynamic stability and recognizing early signs of deterioration.
  • Administer IV medications and drips (including insulin and cardiac drips) per protocol; initiate IV access and manage post-cardiac cath care.
  • Perform EKGs, monitor telemetry data, adjust medications as prescribed, and document findings accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Collaborate with the unit float team to cover shifting patient needs, coordinate transports, and escalate changes in patient condition to the charge nurse and physician as needed.
  • Adhere to unit-specific procedures such as insulin drips, cardiac drips, starting IVs, and post-cardiac cath care; maintain a 3:1 patient ratio on the unit.
  • Provide care for patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome, respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP), heart failure, and other cardiac-related diagnoses requiring close monitoring and frequent observation.
