About The Position

This is a travel assignment for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical-Surgical care with a focus on Stroke Stepdown in Utica, NY. The role involves providing direct nursing care to adult patients with stroke and related conditions on a 64-bed unit. Responsibilities include monitoring, assessment, medication administration, IV therapy, and patient education. The position requires floating to other units as needed and maintaining unit-specific equipment and protocols. The assignment is for 13 weeks, starting on 09/06/2026, with guaranteed hours and a weekly pay range of $2,201-$2,344.

Requirements

Active RN license (New York) or eligibility to obtain one
Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience with stroke/stroke stepdown background
Travel experience required
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or ability to obtain prior to start
AHA BLS certification (current)
Driver’s license with address that matches demographics
Ability to float to other units as needed and work with adult patient populations
Nursing degree from an accredited program (RN)

Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care to adult Med/Surg patients with stroke and related conditions, including routine monitoring, symptom assessment, and escalation as needed
Perform frequent neuro checks and NIH Stroke Scale assessments; implement care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
Administer medications, manage IV therapy and IV pumps, and care for enteral feeding tubes as applicable
Monitor respiratory status, implement isolation precautions when indicated, and support patients with COPD, CHF, renal issues, pneumonia, and related conditions
Document care accurately, ensure timely handoffs, and participate in discharge planning and patient/family education
Assist with callouts, float to other units as needed, and maintain unit-specific equipment and protocols (IV pumps, N/G tubes, feeding tubes)
