About The Position

This is a travel Registered Nurse position for a Med Surg (Stroke Stepdown) unit in New York, United States. The assignment is for an estimated 13 weeks, starting on 08/31/2026. The role involves providing direct patient care to adults in a fast-paced hospital setting, with a focus on stroke and related medical conditions. The nurse will monitor patient status, administer medications, manage assessments, document care, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. Floating to other units may be required as needed.

Requirements

  • Current New York RN license with active status; NURSYS license verification required with all active RN licenses listed
  • AHA BLS required
  • NIHSS certification required (NIHSS can be obtained prior to start)
  • Minimum 2+ years of Med/Surg experience with stroke stepdown and travel experience
  • EPIC experience preferred
  • Driver’s license with address matching demographics
  • Up-to-date resume including 2+ years MS/stroke stepdown experience and travel experience
  • Ability to float
  • RTO requests must be included at time of submission

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care to adults on a MS Stroke Stepdown unit, including monitoring neurological status and vital signs
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and supportive treatments per physician orders
  • Manage cardiac and neurological assessments, document findings, and communicate changes promptly
  • Utilize nursing skills to care for patients with stroke, altered mental status, renal issues, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, isolation precautions, and general medical-surgical conditions
  • Operate unit equipment (IV pumps, NG/nutritional tubes) and implement feeding plans as ordered
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, participate in rounds, and ensure patient safety and quality of care
  • Documentation in EPIC and adherence to unit protocols; support patient and family education
  • Float to designated units as required by schedule; maintain professional appearance per unit guidelines (scrub color: navy)
