About The Position

This is a travel Registered Nurse (RN) position specializing in Labor and Delivery (L&D) for a temporary assignment in a short-term acute care hospital setting. The contract is for 13 weeks, with a start date of 08/30/2026. The shift is nights, consisting of three 12-hour blocks (18:45–07:15). The role involves providing direct nursing care for obstetric patients, assisting with labor and delivery, and supporting postpartum recovery. Opportunities to float to other units, such as Medical-Surgical (MS), may be required, including providing pediatric care when necessary. Virtual orientation will be provided on Monday.

Requirements

  • Active RN license (state not specified)
  • AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications
  • Fetal monitoring class completed within the past 24 months
  • Must be fully committed to obtaining PALS prior to start
  • 2 years of L&D experience
  • Willing to float to MS and care for pediatric patients
  • Ability to work effectively in a travel assignment and adapt to new clinical environments
  • Weekend requirements: every other weekend
  • On-call 2–3 shifts per month

Nice To Haves

  • EPIC experience highly preferred
  • 3+ years of L&D in a rural hospital setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct labor and delivery nursing care for obstetric patients, including admission assessment, continuous fetal monitoring, and labor progression management.
  • Administer medications and analgesia per protocol, assist with labor, delivery, and cesarean sections, and support postpartum/birth recovery.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal status, respond to obstetric emergencies, perform newborn care assessments, and coordinate with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Document care in the electronic medical record and ensure accurate handoffs during shift change.
  • Participate in care coordination, patient and family education, and appropriate escalation when clinical concerns arise.
  • Float to other units (MS) as needed for overflow, and provide pediatric care when required.
