About The Position

This is a travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a hospital in Rochester, NY. The assignment is for 17 weeks, starting on 09/14/2026, with a weekly pay range of $2,224–$2,324. The role involves working 12-hour night shifts in a hospital inpatient unit that cares for mixed acuity patients, including a high-acuity step-down component focused on neurosurgical and neurovascular care.

Requirements

  • RN license valid in New York (NY RN license required)
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • NIHSS required
  • Telemetry experience required
  • Minimum 2 years of step-down/PCU experience
  • Ability to work in a high-acuity neuro/step-down unit and to perform duties across related neurovascular care

Nice To Haves

  • High-acuity stroke and neurosurgery experience strongly preferred
  • ACLS preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care for neurosurgical and neurocritical care patients on a mixed-acuity unit, including floor-level and an 8-bed high-acuity step-down.
  • Conduct frequent neurological assessments (Q1 neuro checks) and respond to changes in status; monitor hemodynamics and neurological status continuously.
  • Manage patients with cerebrospinal fluid drains (EVDs, lumbar drains, subdural drains), arterial lines, and telemetry; titrate vasoactive infusions as ordered (e.g., Cardene drips) and manage seizure precautions.
  • Support post-operative neurosurgical care (e.g., aneurysm repair, coiling/clips, DBS insertions, VP shunts) and high-acuity stroke care; collaborate with neurology, neurosurgery, and other multidisciplinary teams.
  • Coordinate patient care plans, document per hospital policy, and provide patient and family education as appropriate.
  • Ensure safety and quality care during complex monitoring and interventions; prioritize escalating concerns to the appropriate team.
