About The Position

This is a travel Registered Nurse position in the Emergency Department (ER) at an acute-care hospital in Potsdam, New York. The assignment is temporary, lasting several weeks, with a start date of October 5, 2026. The role involves providing emergency nursing care to a diverse patient population, including neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients, in a combined adult/pediatric ED. The facility is a hospital ED with Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center designations. The position offers 4x12-hour shifts with availability for day or night shifts. First-time travelers are accepted, but local candidates are not eligible due to distance restrictions.

Requirements

  • NY RN license in hand (required for submission)
  • Minimum 2 years ED/emergency care experience
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Active certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC
  • Demonstrated ability to care for neonatal through geriatric populations in a high-acuity ED
  • Ability to float between adult and pediatric ED settings; comfortable working within a Level III trauma center ED
  • Compliance: distance restrictions apply (locally not accepted; must be >50 miles; candidates within 75 miles not accepted); RTO not to exceed 10 days; return staff policy of 6 months system-wide
  • Orientation modules must be completed pre-start (up to 5 hours billable)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver emergency nursing care to neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients; perform triage, rapid assessment, and ongoing monitoring in a combined adult/pediatric ED
  • Manage trauma- and neuro-related presentations, including stroke/CVA, neuro-trauma/TBI, spinal injuries, and penetrating trauma; support ortho/abdominal cases as needed
  • Provide airway management, ventilator support, CVV/vasopressor infusions, central line care, and sedation as appropriate
  • Interpret and respond to cardiac dysrhythmias; administer blood products and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (Respiratory, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Pharmacy, Rapid Response, Interpretation services, Unit Secretary) to deliver timely care
  • Document care accurately in EPIC; utilize SBAR for effective handoffs; manage medication dispensing through Pyxis and maintain patient safety and infection control standards
