About The Position

This is a travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department (ED) in Utica, New York. The role involves providing direct patient care to a broad age range of patients, from newborns to geriatrics, in a fast-paced environment. The nurse will be responsible for triage, assessment, monitoring, and delivering evidence-based interventions for common ED presentations. The position requires flexibility to float within the ED as needed to support staffing and patient care delivery. Documentation will be done using EPIC, and coordination with various healthcare professionals is essential for efficient patient flow. The assignment is for 16 weeks, with potential for extension.

Requirements

  • Active New York RN license (NURSYS verification required) and all RN licenses current
  • Minimum 2+ years of ED experience
  • Travel experience required; documentation of prior assignments preferred
  • Certifications: AHA ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC (TNCC must be in hand)
  • EMR experience: EPIC
  • Current driver’s license with address matching demographics; ability to meet RTO requests included at submission
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced ED environment across age groups (neonatal to geriatric) and to float to cover unit needs

  • Some pediatric exposure preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care for newborns, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in the ED, including triage, assessment, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions for common ED presentations such as stroke, sepsis, trauma, MI, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure; administer medications and treatments per physician orders.
  • Utilize EPIC for documentation, orders, and communication; coordinate with physicians, case management, social work, and ancillary services to ensure efficient patient flow and disposition.
  • Assist with procedures, rapid assessment units, and utilization of ED equipment such as rapid infusers and temperature management devices as appropriate.
  • Maintain patient safety, infection control, and accurate vital signs monitoring; respond to code events and participate in alarm management, patient transport, and handoffs at shift change.
  • Adapt to floating within ED areas as needed to support staffing and patient care delivery; communicate changes in patient status to the care team.
