About The Position

This is a travel Registered Nurse assignment in the Emergency Department (ER) in San Luis Obispo, California. The role involves providing comprehensive nursing care in an acute care ER environment, including triage, treatment, and discharge planning for a diverse patient population. Key duties include performing rapid assessments, monitoring vital signs, interpreting ECG rhythms, responding to emergencies, administering medications and IV therapies, managing equipment, and documenting care in the electronic medical record.

Requirements

• Current RN license in the state of practice (California)
• Associate Degree (A.S.) required
• At least two years of recent nursing experience
• One year in acute care required
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• NIHSS
• Current EPIC experience required
• Ability to work in a fast-paced emergency department and to meet night-shift requirements

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire or transfer

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care in the ER, including triage, treatment, and discharge planning for patients from newborns to geriatrics
• Perform rapid assessments, monitor vital signs, interpret ECG rhythms, and respond to life-threatening emergencies
• Administer medications and IV therapies, manage indwelling catheters and drains, and ensure safe use of critical care equipment
• Review and complete orders in a timely manner; deliver medication teaching and discharge instructions to patients and families
• Collaborate with ED team, follow established chain of command, and participate in Code Blue, Code Stroke, Sepsis, and Trauma Activations as needed
• Document accurately in the electronic medical record and ensure thorough handoffs between shifts
