About The Position

IU Health is hiring Refill Pharmacy Technicians for its expanding Pharmacy Refill Department in Lafayette. The positions are expected to go live in Spring and Summer 2026. The role supports providers and patients by managing prescription refill requests in a fast-paced, office-based pharmacy environment. Technicians work closely with providers, clinical staff, and pharmacies to process refill requests accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with Indiana pharmacy regulations. After training, a hybrid or remote work schedule may be available based on performance, accuracy, and departmental metrics.

This role is intended for experienced pharmacy technicians who want to expand their skills within a collaborative healthcare team. Technicians work at the top of their license and use technical knowledge, analytical skills, and attention to detail while working under pharmacist supervision and following established procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Active Indiana Pharmacy Technician License.
• At least one year of pharmacy technician experience; retail experience is preferred, and hospital experience is considered.
• Obtain Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in or graduated from an ASHP/ACPE-accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
• Ability to work under pharmacist supervision and follow established procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to review and analyze medication refill requests.
• Understanding of common drug names, dosages, and pharmacy terminology.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment.
• Commitment to accuracy, quality, and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to review, process, and manage prescription refill requests from patients and external pharmacies.
• Analyze refill requests for accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness before pharmacist review.
• Enter and maintain prescription and refill information accurately in the pharmacy system.
• Communicate professionally with patients, providers, and pharmacies to clarify requests and resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Ensure refill activities comply with state regulations, organizational policies, and patient safety standards.
• Prioritize workload to meet volume demands while maintaining accuracy.
• Support pharmacists and other pharmacy team members in daily operations as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold HIPAA standards in communications and documentation.
