About The Position

The Recovery Support Specialist supports the program by ensuring quality direct care services are provided to clients. The role reports to the Program Director for regular supervision and assignments. The position is based on site at the Our Living and Recovering Community (LARC) program in Jamaica Plain, a residential treatment program serving 24 men and women with substance use disorder. The program lasts three to nine months and supports residents with co-occurring conditions, including mental health and chronic health conditions.

The role provides empathetic client support, assists with medication self-administration and documentation, maintains a safe and therapeutic residential environment, records client and program data in Electronic Health Records, facilitates or co-facilitates client groups, and provides referrals as needed. This is a part-time, 16-hour-per-week position scheduled Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., on site. The rate is $22.28 per hour.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team.
• Ability to engage with clients in an instructive, directive, and compassionate manner.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex and drug cultures, age groups, religion, country of origin, disability, and economic status.
• CPR certification; may be obtained upon hire.
• Completed TB screening; may be obtained upon hire.
• Three work-related professional references, at least two of which must be from a manager or supervisor.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the field of addiction or mental health.
• Knowledge of the addiction recovery process, or willingness to acquire it within the first six months of employment.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

Responsibilities

• Act in accordance with Victory Programs, Inc.’s Standards of Excellence and Philosophy of Care, maintaining professional ethics, boundaries, and client confidentiality.
• Provide quality, empathetic customer service to clients in the program.
• Follow policies and procedures when assisting and monitoring clients’ self-administration of medication.
• Document medications, including counting controlled medication, recording incoming medication and medication removal, and signing off when clients take medication.
• Provide milieu coverage by maintaining and assessing the therapeutic milieu, empowering clients to follow program guidelines, conducting rounds, answering phones and the front door, and completing other assigned duties.
• Follow policies and procedures for maintaining a safe and appropriate residential environment, including ensuring the facility is safe, clean, and in good repair, keeping fire escape routes clear, and reporting facility concerns.
• Enter client and program data in Electronic Health Records.
• Facilitate and/or co-facilitate client groups and complete required group facilitation documentation.
• Provide referrals as needed.
• Participate in and support agency program events, State House rallies, fundraising and advocacy events, walks, and other functions.
• Perform other duties or tasks requested by the supervisor or their designee.
