It works with hospital-based medical teams to initiate evidence-based addiction medication services, help diagnose use disorders, provide motivational interviewing and safe-supply education, and coordinate care tailored to patient needs. The service includes an attending physician, patient navigators, licensed vocational nurses, a nurse practitioner, and addiction medicine fellows. Vouchers 4 Veggies is a community-based healthy-food and produce-prescription initiative founded in 2015 at UCSF. Its voucher program operates in underserved neighborhoods and enables low-income individuals to purchase fruits and vegetables from partner retailers, including grocers, corner stores, and farmers markets. Participants receive $20 or $40 vouchers through community organizations and clinics. In partnership with the San Francisco Department of Public Health, the program has directed more than $1.5 million in produce purchases to low-income neighborhoods and supports local retailers in stocking fresh produce.
