About The Position

The Quality Engineer supports the Combat Mission Systems' Paladin vehicle manufacturing program in a low-rate, automotive-style production environment. The role develops, implements, and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and ensures requirements are met across Engine Testing, Sub-assemblies, Main Line, Garage, Testing, and Paint & Processing. Acting as a link between production and quality, the Quality Engineer works with cross-functional support organizations to investigate, document, and resolve issues associated with military vehicle manufacturing. The role uses quality tools and data analysis to drive continuous improvement, corrective actions, and conformance to engineering specifications and customer requirements. The position validates processes, procedures, parts, and completed vehicles; monitors quality data to identify defect trends; coordinates efforts to address production bottlenecks and quality escapes; and ensures manufacturing activities follow ISO 9001 standards and internal BAE Systems quality governance.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control principles.
  • Practical experience operating within ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Proven background in root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques in low-rate production environments.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and engineering specifications.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organization and communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical issues to shop-floor personnel and executive leadership.
  • Manufacturing, production, assembly, or automotive experience, specifically with low-rate, high-complexity assemblies.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining quality control protocols in an ISO 9001-certified environment.
  • Experience using Pareto charts and other data analysis tools to identify defect trends and implement corrective actions.
  • Track record of leading cross-functional teams to resolve production issues and quality escapes.
  • Experience interpreting engineering blueprints and technical drawings to validate part conformance.
  • For high school diploma candidates: relevant experience must include a proven track record in a lead or supervisory role managing quality workflows or personnel.
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of relevant quality engineering experience, or an associate's degree with at least 4 years of relevant quality engineering experience, or a high school diploma with at least 8 years of relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency developing and maintaining PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and PQCT (Process Quality Control Tables).
  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and developing inspection programs using portable metrology technology such as Faro arms or laser trackers.
  • Hands-on experience with ORACLE MRP systems and TIPQA for quality tracking and documentation.
  • Experience performing ISO internal audits and Layered Process Audits (LPA), including leading cross-functional team meetings to close audit findings.
  • Experience drafting and refining detailed work instructions for complex assembly processes to reduce human-factor errors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify quality control protocols for in-process, partially finished, and finished tracked vehicle products.
  • Validate processes, procedures, parts, and final vehicles for conformance to engineering specifications and customer requirements.
  • Monitor input and Pareto quality data, identify defect trends and nonconformities, and present findings to leadership to support corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional project efforts to resolve production bottlenecks and quality escapes.
  • Ensure manufacturing activities comply with ISO 9001 standards and internal BAE Systems quality governance.
  • Investigate, document, and resolve complex quality issues in collaboration with production and cross-functional support organizations.
