About The Position

This position is for a Part-Time Professor teaching ESL 130: Academic Enhancement in English for the Fall 2026 semester at the Main Campus. The course focuses on refining reading and listening skills, improving critical thinking, and developing self-correction strategies in speaking and writing through activities like debates, oral presentations, summaries, and academic essays. The term runs from September 9 to December 11, 2026, with a schedule of Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This posting is limited to Part-Time Language Instructors (OLBI). The course requires in-person instruction on the University of Ottawa campus. Professors teaching the same section mutually agree upon teaching schedules, but the unit reserves the right to assign teaching days if necessary.

Requirements

Master's degree in second language teaching, TESL or related discipline.
Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level.
Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course.
Experience with team-teaching.
TESL Certification or equivalent.
An acceptable level of education/experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
Employees are required under provincial law to successfully complete all mandatory legislated training.

Responsibilities

Refinement of previously learned reading and listening skills.
Improvement of critical thinking skills.
Learning self-correction strategies in speaking and writing.
Conducting debates and extended oral presentations.
Assigning and evaluating unguided summaries.
Assigning and evaluating academic essays using various organizational patterns.
In-person instruction on the University of Ottawa campus.
Mutually agreeing upon teaching schedules with other professors teaching the same section.
