About The Position

This position is for a Part-Time Professor teaching ESL 120: Academic Development in English for the Fall 2026 semester at the Main Campus. The course builds on previously acquired skills to help students understand longer listening and reading passages with different patterns of organization. In speaking and writing, classes introduce students to the academic requirements of oral presentations and paragraphs using various organizational patterns. The course is offered exclusively on the University of Ottawa campus and requires in-person instruction. Professors teaching the same section mutually agree upon teaching schedules. In circumstances of limited sections on offer and/or conflicting schedules among professors, the unit reserves the right to select professor teaching days for a given section.

Requirements

Master's degree in second language teaching, TESL or related discipline.
Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level.
Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course.
Experience with team-teaching.
TESL Certification or equivalent.
Ability to complete all mandatory legislated training.

An acceptable level of education/experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.

Responsibilities

Teach ESL 120: Academic Development in English.
Develop and deliver lectures and course materials.
Assess student progress through assignments, presentations, and exams.
Collaborate with other professors teaching the same section to agree upon teaching schedules.
Complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
