About The Position

This posting is for a Part-Time Professor position teaching ESL 105 - Foundations in English (beginners) during the Fall 2026 semester at the University of Ottawa's Main Campus. The course focuses on the basic elements of reading and listening, including identifying topics, main ideas, and details in simplified passages. Speaking and writing components involve simple conversations, short discussions, and the construction of simple and compound sentences. The course is offered exclusively on campus and requires in-person instruction. Professors teaching the same section mutually agree upon teaching schedules, but the unit reserves the right to select teaching days in cases of limited sections or conflicting schedules.

Requirements

Master's degree in second language teaching, TESL or related discipline.
Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level.
Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course.
Experience with team-teaching.
TESL Certification or equivalent.
Acceptable level of education/experience equivalent to the required education and/or demonstrated experience.

Responsibilities

Teach ESL 105 - Foundations in English (beginners) course.
Cover basic elements of reading and listening, including identification of topic, main ideas, and details in short, simplified passages.
Instruct students in speaking and writing, including simple conversations, short discussions, and simple and compound sentences.
Mutually agree upon teaching schedules with other professors teaching the same section.
Complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
