About The Position

This position is for a Part-Time Professor teaching ESL 105 (Foundations in English) for beginners during the Fall 2026 semester at the University of Ottawa's Main Campus. The course focuses on basic reading and listening skills, including identifying topics, main ideas, and details in simplified passages. Speaking and writing components involve simple conversations, short discussions, and the construction of simple and compound sentences. The course is offered exclusively on campus and requires in-person instruction. The schedule is Monday - Friday, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, with professors mutually agreeing on teaching days for the section. The unit reserves the right to select teaching days if there are conflicts or limited sections. Requirements

  • Master's degree in second language teaching, TESL, or a related discipline.
  • Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level.
  • Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course.
  • Experience with team-teaching.
  • TESL Certification or equivalent.
  • Ability to complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ESL 105 (Foundations in English) to beginners.
  • Focus on basic elements of reading and listening, including identification of topic, main ideas, and details in short, simplified passages.
  • Instruct students in speaking and writing, including simple conversations, short discussions, and the construction of simple and compound sentences.
  • Provide in-person instruction on the University of Ottawa campus.
  • Mutually agree upon teaching schedules with other professors teaching the same section, or accept assigned teaching days if necessary.
  • Complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
