About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated Psychiatric Nurse (RN) to join our team on the night shift, providing exceptional mental health care in a dynamic hospital environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a passion for patient-centered care, and the ability to work effectively during overnight hours. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals experiencing mental health challenges. This is a temporary assignment for 8 weeks, with potential for extension based on organizational needs. If the assignment extends through the holidays, the candidate must be able to work the specified holidays. Candidates employed by any UHS facility within the last 6 months are not eligible for these appointments. This position is not eligible for shift differential or benefits.

Requirements

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current Louisianna state certification.
Must have prior experience working in psychiatric or behavioral health settings.
Experience as an ER nurse is also highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of mental health assessment tools, medication administration, and crisis intervention strategies.
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in memory care units is advantageous.
Demonstrated ability to handle acute pain management and emergency response procedures effectively.
Excellent communication skills combined with a compassionate approach to patient care.
Critical care experience or background in hospital medicine enhances suitability for this role.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing care to patients with diverse mental health needs, including crisis intervention and stabilization.
Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, mental status evaluations, and risk assessments.
Administer medications accurately, including psychotropic agents, and monitor for adverse reactions or side effects.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans aligned with best practices and regulatory standards.
Maintain detailed and accurate medical documentation ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
Respond promptly to emergencies or behavioral escalations using de-escalation techniques and crisis management protocols.
