About The Position

The Western Tidewater Health District is seeking a highly qualified Program Support Technician to join our Environmental Health team. The Western Tidewater Health District services the City of Suffolk, Isle of Wight County, Southampton County, and the City of Franklin. The Program Support Technician position duties include typing correspondence, forms, food establishment files, animal bite reports, and records of complaint, process and file sewage and well applications/permits in addition to developing and maintaining computerized logs and databases of environmental program activities for the Environmental Health Manager. Daily duties include collecting fees, writing receipts, creating daily transmittal and deposits, and creating forms and educational material for utilization by staff and citizens. Additional duties will include reviewing food establishment and sewage disposal/ well permit applications for accuracy and entering applications into the Environmental Health Database. This position performs duties as the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) officer for the health district and provides these services along with training other office support staff. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of office procedures, computer and software technology, use of policies & procedures and customer service
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, orally and written
  • Strong organizational skills and experience with software applications and Microsoft Office products (i.e. WORD, EXCEL, and database entry) and general office equipment (copier, fax, calculator)
  • Ability and experience with setting up and maintaining files & manuals
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to follow and apply established procedures and applicable policies

Responsibilities

  • Typing correspondence, forms, food establishment files, animal bite reports, and records of complaint.

  • Developing and maintaining computerized logs and databases of environmental program activities for the Environmental Health Manager.
  • Collecting fees, writing receipts, creating daily transmittal and deposits.

  • Reviewing food establishment and sewage disposal/ well permit applications for accuracy and entering applications into the Environmental Health Database.
  • Performing duties as the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) officer for the health district.
  • Providing FOIA services and training other office support staff.
