About The Position

OpenRouter is hiring a Product Manager to build and operate its marketplace connecting developers with inference providers. The role focuses on turning OpenRouter’s routing layer into a liquid marketplace that improves ecosystem quality and creates new ways to buy and sell inference. The Product Manager will lead marketplace mechanics, provider-facing products, and economic incentives that balance supply and demand. Working closely with engineering, operations, and partnerships, this person will launch market structures such as auctions, priority lanes, and dynamic pricing; develop benchmarks and diagnostics that help providers compete for traffic; and convert manual onboarding and operations into self-serve APIs. The position is suited to a technical product builder who understands market incentives, unit economics, and distributed systems and collaborates closely with engineers to ship durable infrastructure.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of product management, technical founder, or marketplace systems experience building products at the intersection of algorithmic decision-making, economics, and infrastructure.
  • Experience with a two-sided marketplace, exchange, or price-matching engine, including understanding liquidity, price discovery, supply-demand balancing, and trust systems.
  • Prior software engineering experience, a Computer Science education, or equivalent technical depth.
  • Understanding of API design and engineering constraints, and ability to partner closely with engineers to scope, sequence, and ship complex projects iteratively.
  • Understanding of LLM inference stacks, including provider request handling and caching, batching, and quantization tradeoffs affecting cost and performance.
  • Daily use of coding agents to analyze data, prototype workflows, and validate specifications before requesting engineering time.
  • Strong commercial and economic instincts, including ability to model margin and capacity tradeoffs and design incentives that benefit customers, providers, and the platform.
  • High agency, velocity, and written clarity; ability to turn complex technical and economic problems into written strategies, speak directly with users and partners, prioritize scope, and ship quickly.

Nice To Haves

  • Background at an inference provider, AI lab, neo-cloud, or GPU cloud, or experience building infrastructure for model serving and routing.
  • Hands-on experience designing auction mechanisms, spot or batch compute markets, SLA tiers, or dynamic pricing models.
  • Track record building B2B seller or partner tooling, self-serve onboarding funnels, and partner analytics dashboards.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Provider Marketplace roadmap, including the provider dashboard, self-serve APIs, onboarding pipelines, and traffic prioritization, pricing, and quality mechanisms.
  • Design, test, and scale new marketplace mechanisms for matching inference supply and demand, including auctions, committed capacity, and dynamic pricing.
  • Build buyer-side purchasing controls and provider-side capacity tools that make new markets liquid and easy to adopt.
  • Define inference prioritization and service tiers, including priority lanes, dedicated enterprise capacity, and flex tiers, balancing customer reliability, provider margins, and OpenRouter’s business model.
  • Improve provider quality through automated feedback loops, including continuous evaluations, routing scorecards, and real-time failure diagnostics.
  • Partner with Engineering, Provider Development, and Provider Operations to convert manual onboarding, model staging, pricing updates, and health checks into self-serve APIs.
  • Analyze request logs, routing metrics, and unit economics to identify unmet demand, stranded capacity, or broken incentives, and translate findings into specifications and shipped products.
