Product Designer, AI Native

Urban Ridge Supplies•New York, NY
•$155,000 - $215,000

About The Position

Citizen is rebuilding its consumer safety app as an AI-native product. The Product Designer will lead the consumer mobile experience, with iOS first and Android close behind, and own the product’s revenue surface. Reporting directly to the Founder and CEO, the designer will shape a product used by millions, set the design bar through their own work, and help determine how a small design team develops as it grows. The role spans the full consumer experience—including onboarding, maps, incident experiences, live video, alerts, and Premium—as well as new live, AI-generated, and ambient safety experiences. The designer owns the subscription roadmap and experiments, the design system across product, brand, and the live broadcast studio, and the prototyping and validation process. They will also build and operate AI-agent workflows that handle production tasks, while deciding where human review is needed. The work involves close, ongoing collaboration with the Founder and CEO, iOS and Android engineering, Marketing, Real-Time Operations, and existing agents. The first 90 days include learning the product, users, data, operations, and codebase; shipping a visible production improvement; setting the design agenda and taking over revenue tests; establishing asset-generation and prototyping workflows; and shipping a new category-defining experience. The role then sets a twelve-month design roadmap. The position is suited to a senior-level consumer mobile designer with roughly a decade of experience designing and shipping products used by millions. The designer should combine strong craft and judgment with high agency, experience creating new product experiences, practical use of AI agents, systems thinking, ownership of business outcomes such as paywall or pricing tests, fluency in video and motion, and the ability to prototype on a device using tools such as Figma, Origami, SwiftUI, or code. The role requires comfort making decisions with incomplete information, exchanging direct feedback with the Founder and CEO, and designing thoughtfully for a safety-focused mission. Compensation is a base salary of $155,000–$215,000 per year, plus meaningful equity.

Requirements

  • Roughly a decade of experience designing and shipping end-to-end consumer mobile products used by millions of people.
  • Demonstrated design taste and the ability to explain sound choices among many generated options.
  • Experience creating something genuinely new, such as a new interaction, category, or product experience.
  • High agency: able to make decisions, ship work, improve on a given direction, and build tools or workflows when they do not exist.
  • Existing hands-on experience building with AI and replacing parts of a personal workflow with agents; informed opinions about AI tools and their limitations.
  • Systems thinking across typography, color, motion, sound, and design-language consistency across teams and agents.
  • Experience owning an outcome such as a paywall, pricing, or onboarding test end to end, interpreting results, and making ship-or-stop decisions.
  • Comfort acting as the product manager when there is no product manager between the designer and the subscription business.
  • Fluency in video and motion design.
  • Ability to prototype quickly at high fidelity on a real device and sufficient coding comfort to put an idea on a phone without waiting for an engineer; the role is not an engineering position.
  • Willingness to lead by example and help a small team do its best work.
  • Care for the safety mission and the people affected by real incidents.
  • Ability to make confident decisions with incomplete information, receive direct feedback from the Founder and CEO, and give direct feedback in return.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the consumer mobile experience, with iOS first and Android close behind, across onboarding, maps, incident experiences, live video, alerts, and Premium.
  • Invent and ship new live, AI-generated, and ambient safety experiences for mobile.
  • Own the consumer revenue product, including paywalls, plan mix, trials and reverse trials, upgrade paths, payment at onboarding, the roadmap, experiments, and ship decisions.
  • Run revenue experiments end to end, using agent-supported test setup and analysis while deciding what goes live.
  • Own and evolve Citizen’s design system across product, brand, and the live broadcast studio, including typography, color, motion, sound, and iconography.
  • Create high-fidelity prototypes quickly and validate them through usability sessions, funnel data, and live experiments.
  • Design, run, and improve AI-agent workflows for design production, asset generation, and prototyping, including deciding where human review is needed.
  • Collaborate daily with the Founder and CEO on product direction and closely with iOS and Android engineering, Marketing, Real-Time Operations, and existing agents.
  • Set the product design agenda, help shape the future design team, and establish a twelve-month design roadmap.
  • Learn the product, users, data, operations floor, and codebase; audit product flows; and ship a visible production improvement during the first 30 days.
  • Take over live revenue tests and establish initial production workflows for asset generation and prototyping during days 31–60.
  • Ship a category-defining experience to real users during days 61–90.
  • Lead by example and help a small team do its best work.
