Product Designer, AI Native

Urban Ridge Supplies•New York, NY
•$155,000 - $215,000

About The Position

Citizen is hiring a senior product designer to lead its consumer mobile experience and own its revenue product. Reporting directly to the Founder and CEO, this person will work across iOS and Android, shaping the experience from onboarding and maps to incidents, live video, alerts, and Premium. The role is expected to help define Citizen’s next chapter as a live, AI-native, ambient, and personal safety product, while delivering experiences that make users return daily and subscriptions that convert and retain members. The designer will own the consumer revenue surface—including paywalls, plans, trials, upgrades, onboarding payments, experiments, roadmap, and launch decisions—as well as Citizen’s design system across product, brand, and the live broadcast studio. They will create high-fidelity prototypes quickly, validate work through usability sessions, funnel data, and experiments, and build and operate AI-agent workflows that handle production tasks such as generating variants, preparing assets, and turning designs into prototypes. The CEO is the role’s only approval point, and there is no product manager between the designer and the subscription business. The role partners daily with the Founder and CEO, works closely with iOS and Android engineering, and collaborates with Marketing, Real-Time Operations, and the company’s AI agents. The designer will set the standard through their own work and help shape the design team as it grows. The first 90 days include learning the product and operations in New York, shipping a visible production improvement, taking over revenue tests, establishing production workflows, shipping an initial category-defining experience, and setting a twelve-month design roadmap.

Requirements

  • Roughly a decade of experience designing and shipping end-to-end consumer mobile products used by millions.
  • Demonstrated product design taste, supported by a portfolio of work.
  • Strong judgment in evaluating generated design options and explaining which are worth pursuing.
  • Experience creating a new product, interaction, or category that did not previously exist.
  • High agency, with the ability to make decisions, ship work, and build tools or workflows when needed.
  • Existing hands-on experience building with AI and replacing parts of personal workflows with agents; informed opinions about AI tools and their limitations.
  • Ability to think in systems across typography, color, motion, sound, and scalable design language.
  • Experience owning product outcomes, including running a paywall, pricing, or onboarding test end to end and making decisions based on results.
  • Comfort taking on product-management responsibilities when there is no product manager.
  • Fluency in video and motion design.
  • Ability to prototype in high fidelity, quickly, on a real device, and sufficient coding ability to put ideas on a phone without waiting for an engineer; the role is not an engineering position.
  • Willingness to lead by example and help a small team do its best work.
  • Commitment to the safety mission and sensitivity to the real-world situations the product serves.
  • Ability to make confident decisions with incomplete information, receive direct feedback from a strongly opinionated founder, and give candid feedback in return.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the consumer mobile experience across iOS and Android, including onboarding, maps, incident experiences, live video, alerts, and Premium.
  • Invent and deliver new live, AI-generated, and ambient safety experiences.
  • Own the consumer revenue product, including paywalls, plan mix, trials, upgrades, onboarding payment, roadmap, experiments, and shipping decisions.
  • Own and evolve the design system across product, brand, and the live broadcast studio, including typography, color, motion, sound, and iconography.
  • Create high-fidelity prototypes rapidly using tools such as Figma, Origami, SwiftUI, or code, and validate them through usability sessions, funnel data, and live experiments.
  • Build, operate, and improve AI-agent workflows for design production, asset generation, prototyping, and experiment support; determine where human review remains necessary.
  • Set product design direction and work daily with the Founder and CEO.
  • Partner with iOS and Android engineering on delivery, and collaborate with Marketing, Real-Time Operations, and existing agents.
  • Use the product daily and learn its users, data, operations, and codebase; audit flows and ship improvements.
  • Help shape the design team and establish its roadmap and operating approach as it grows.
