About The Position

Basis is hiring a Product Designer to help create interfaces for AI agents that perform complex accounting work. The role involves designing both the screens accountants use and the underlying UI components agents can assemble, edit, and explain. The designer will imagine the product’s future and move toward it through iterative prototypes and releases. The Product Designer will work closely with founders, engineers, accountants, and product design partners in an in-person team at Basis’s Flatiron office in New York City. They will build deep familiarity with accounting users by spending some time doing accounting work in Basis, and will explore emerging LLM capabilities and interaction models to inform product decisions. This is a high-intensity, autonomous role with end-to-end ownership and an opportunity to shape the product’s direction.

Requirements

4–8 years of experience designing complex SaaS or AI tooling; extraordinary talent with fewer years may be considered.
At least one 0-to-1 product launch.
Strong first-principles reasoning and ability to solve problems without legacy bias.
Experience prototyping with LLMs and ability to explain how AI changes UX.
Uses AI extensively in their own work for learning, brainstorming, writing, research, and other tasks.
Willingness to work in person in NYC five days a week with engineers, accountants, and founders.
Learns new domains and technologies quickly.
Comfort sketching flows live with engineers and independently refining interactions in Figma.
Comfort making decisions without a committee and owning a problem space end to end.
Interested in a high-intensity culture, high-upside equity, and broad scope.

Responsibilities

Design and redesign user-agent interactions across multiple surfaces, from initial sketches through polished releases.
Create agent-ready UI primitives that agents can assemble, edit, and explain in real time.
Partner closely with product design to integrate agents into new and existing products.
Develop deep understanding of accounting users by spending time doing accounting work in Basis.
Partner with founders to envision Basis in 2027 and translate that vision into quarterly product bets.
Study accounting, emerging LLM capabilities, and UX for generally intelligent software, and turn those insights into product decisions.
Prototype with LLMs and use AI for activities such as learning, brainstorming, writing, and research.
Own a problem space and make decisions autonomously.
