About the position
The job overview for this role is that the Product Designer Manager will be responsible for managing a team of designers and guiding them towards the vision of the product. They will prioritize work, run design sprints or workshops, and act as the point of contact for internal stakeholders. The focus will be on performance, process, and quality of design deliverables. Additionally, the Product Designer Manager will drive the product in the right direction by leading the vision alongside product and engineering counterparts, contributing to the team's roadmap and goals, and advocating for user goals. They will also be responsible for improving and operationalizing design processes, managing team operations, and providing strong design direction. The ideal candidate will have significant industry experience in software product design, as well as experience managing a team of visual and UX designers.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of designers and guide them towards the vision of the product
- Deep-dive into requests from product and engineering counterparts
- Help prioritize work and run design sprints or workshops
- Act as the point of contact for internal stakeholders and keep them informed on progress and deadlines
- Focus on performance, process, and quality of design deliverables
- Help the team groom and execute designs while adhering to design guidelines
- Provide regular coaching and feedback to direct reports
- Foresee capacity issues and work with the business to plan and set expectations
- Participate in recruiting efforts
- Communicate team goals and seek opportunities for collaboration with other teams
- Lead the vision for the product alongside product and engineering counterparts
- Contribute to the team's roadmap and goals from a user's perspective
- Make informed, data-backed design recommendations for superior interactions
- Partner with other teams to evangelize user goals
- Manage end-to-end team operations and handle design processes and tools
- Identify improvements to processes and contribute to root cause analysis
- Have a data-driven approach towards operational goals and key metrics
- Provide strong design direction to other designers on the team
- Analyze metrics and build models around data to provide solutions and improve processes
- Work in a team, communicate deadlines, and deliver as promised
- Expertise in design process/principles and applying them effectively
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma or Miro
- Collaborate effectively and advocate for user experience

Requirements
- 8+ years of industry experience in software product design
- Bachelor's degree in design, computer science, or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or a similar role
- At least 3 years of experience managing a team of visual and UX designers
- Master's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), computer science, or a related field
- At least 4 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or a similar role
- At least 1 year of experience managing a team of visual and UX designers
- Appetite for analyzing metrics and building models around data
- Ability to work in a team and communicate deadlines
- Expertise in design process/principles and applying those principles together
- Proficient in Figma, Miro, or similar design tools
- Ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, and advocate for user experience
