About The Position

The Produce Clerk sorts, displays, removes, and replenishes fresh fruits and vegetables in the produce department. The role maintains the department environment and helps Members through product knowledge and customer service, while ensuring produce meets or exceeds company quality standards.

The position supports BJ’s club policies, procedures, and compliance; contributes to safe, positive, inclusive, and well-organized club operations; and helps deliver the company’s GOLD Member and club standards. Team members are expected to work collaboratively, maintain a friendly and positive attitude, and provide service excellence.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

Responsibilities

• Assist Members in the produce department by answering questions, recommending products and safe handling tips, and helping Members find products throughout the club.
• Inspect, rotate, and store produce upon delivery, ensuring received produce meets or exceeds company standards.
• Rotate produce on the sales floor to maintain freshness and variety; keep cases and displays stocked, neat, and clean; and remove products no longer suitable for sale.
• Maintain the produce reserve stock area by dating and rotating back stock and organizing and condensing the storage area daily.
• Follow established guidelines for disposing of damaged, spoiled, or expired products.
• Assist the Fresh Manager with inventory and order processing as needed.
• Clean and sanitize produce equipment, display fixtures, and department areas, including the produce cooler and refrigerated display cases.
• Generate signage and perform price checks as needed; ensure items are accurately priced and signed.
• Maintain all club policies and procedures.
• Perform other assigned duties, including working in other departments as needed.
• Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance.
• Support safe, positive, inclusive, and collaborative conditions for Members and team members.
• Work with the team to meet daily GOLD club standards, including stocking items, executing promotional plans, maintaining accurate signage, and keeping the club clean and organized.
