About The Position

Anthropic is hiring a Procurement Operations Business Partner to manage purchasing for Workplace, Security, and People teams. Procurement Operations sits within Finance Operations and manages the path from purchase request through signed agreement, purchase order, and accurate month-end spend data. This role supports purchases including real estate, office build-outs and leases, facilities services, furniture and equipment, physical security services and systems, recruiting agencies, HR systems, benefits, and training vendors. This is a high-volume role with a strong accounting focus. The Business Partner will guide requesters through procurement requirements, coordinate contract and risk reviews, create and maintain accurately coded purchase orders, and help ensure receipts, invoices, accruals, and financial records align. The role partners closely with Accounting, Accounts Payable, Legal, Privacy, Security, and Third Party Risk, while supporting the operating needs of Workplace, Security, and People teams. The position also contributes to developing an AI-native procurement operations function, using Claude and workflow automation to improve intake, document review, vendor coordination, and requester support. The role maintains portfolio playbooks and processes, identifies and addresses inefficiencies, and helps make purchasing controls understandable and workable for internal teams. Anthropic currently expects staff to work from one of its offices at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more. A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is the stated minimum education. The annual salary range is $190,000–$230,000 USD. Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space for collaboration.

  • Working knowledge of accrual accounting as it applies to purchasing, including accruals and reversals, service period and cutoff, prepaid versus expense, capital versus operating spend, and GL and cost-center coding.
  • Ability to explain how a purchase order becomes an entry in the general ledger.
  • Experience managing services vendors under master agreements with statements of work and change orders, keeping scope, contract, purchase order, and invoice aligned.
  • Experience with facilities, real estate, or construction purchasing, including milestone or progress billing and receiving against physical delivery.
  • Working knowledge of how contract review, privacy and security review, and financial controls fit into purchasing, and sound judgment about when to advance or slow a request.

  • Relevant field of study, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with office build-outs, leases, or fixed-asset purchasing, including furniture, fixtures, and equipment, and working alongside Lease Accounting or Fixed Assets.
  • Experience buying physical security services or systems, such as guard services, access control, or video surveillance.
  • Experience with recruiting agencies, contingent workforce, or HR and benefits vendors, including privacy review involving employee and candidate data.
  • Background in accounting, accounts payable, or month-end close.
  • Direct experience with Zip, Workday Financials, and Ironclad.
  • Prior ownership of month-end accrual review or open purchase order reconciliation for a large, variable-spend portfolio.
  • Experience designing tiered intake or approval frameworks that accelerate low-risk purchases without weakening controls.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a high volume of purchase requests, statements of work, change orders, and renewals across Workplace, Security, and People.
  • Guide requesters from initial purchase request through signed agreement and issued purchase order.
  • Review requests for accurate vendor and contracting entity records, complete commercial documentation, appropriate spend categorization and service dates, and required approvals.
  • Determine and route required reviews, including statements of work, amendments, lease reviews, privacy reviews, and third-party risk assessments.
  • Partner with Privacy, Security, and Third Party Risk on vendors that handle employee or candidate data or have physical access to offices; ensure required reviews occur before services go live.
  • Launch and track contract reviews with Legal and outside counsel, and confirm executed agreements support purchase orders before issuance.
  • Structure purchase orders to match vendor billing terms and accounting needs, including appropriate GL accounts, cost centers, and service periods.
  • Manage agreement change orders, renewals, and closures throughout their lifecycle.
  • Coordinate purchasing mechanics for physical goods and work, including multi-line quotes, deposits, lead times, receiving, and asset handoffs for furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Help requesters determine whether a purchase requires Procurement and a purchase order or should be paid by card.
  • Code purchase orders at creation, including GL account, spend category, cost center, and service period, and account for financial distinctions such as capital versus operating spend, deposits and prepaids versus expense, and lease versus non-lease costs.
  • Work with Accounting on complex purchasing and accounting cases, including construction billing, retainage, partially delivered milestones, guard services, placement fees, credits, true-ups, and mid-month change orders.
  • Interpret contract commitments, including terms, termination for convenience, and notice periods, to support accurate firm commitment reporting.
  • Own the open purchase order book, including recording receipts against actual delivery, periodic reviews, stale-line cleanup, coding corrections, and timely closures.
  • Review portfolio month-end accruals, collect estimates for variable spend, and confirm or correct proposed amounts to support timely close.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice holds, purchase order mismatches, and receiving questions so vendors are paid on time and spend is accurately recorded.
  • Support audit and reporting requests for the portfolio, including commitment schedules and control evidence.
  • Respond to purchasing questions through team Slack channels and office hours, escalating blockers with relevant context.
  • Apply purchasing policies consistently and explain approval thresholds, signature authority, and available exceptions.
  • Translate procurement, legal, privacy, and finance requirements into plain language and communicate operational realities back to partner teams.
  • Maintain regular check-ins with high-volume teams to identify upcoming projects, renewals, staffing changes, and searches early.
  • Maintain portfolio playbooks, intake guidance, and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify and improve manual steps, recurring questions, and process failures, including opportunities to use Claude and workflow automation.
