Anthropic•Seattle, WA
•$190,000 - $230,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Anthropic is hiring a Procurement Operations Business Partner to manage the purchasing process for Workplace, Security, and People teams. The role sits within Finance Operations and owns the path from a purchase request through contract execution, purchase-order issuance, and accurate spend reporting. The portfolio includes real estate, office build-outs and leases, furniture and equipment, facilities services, maintenance, food and beverage, physical security services and systems, recruiting and HR operations, benefits, and training vendors. This is a high-volume role with a strong accounting focus. The business partner ensures purchases are correctly coded, dated, received, and accrued; maintains alignment among contracts, purchase orders, receipts, and invoices; and supports accurate month-end close, commitment reporting, audits, and vendor payments. The role partners with requesters and reviewers across Legal, Privacy, Security, Third Party Risk, Accounting, and Accounts Payable, while explaining requirements in clear, practical language. The role also maintains portfolio playbooks and intake guidance and improves purchasing workflows, including identifying ways Claude and automation can streamline intake, document review, vendor coordination, and requester support. The position follows Anthropic’s location-based hybrid policy: staff are expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more.

Requirements

  • 5 to 7+ years of procurement operations, purchasing, or vendor operations experience, including support for Workplace or Facilities, Security, or People teams.
  • Proven experience owning a high-volume purchasing portfolio end to end in a procure-to-pay and intake platform.
  • Working knowledge of accrual accounting as applied to purchasing, including accruals and reversals, service periods and cutoff, prepaid versus expense, capital versus operating spend, and GL and cost-center coding.
  • Ability to explain how a purchase order becomes an entry in the general ledger.
  • Experience managing services vendors under master agreements with statements of work and change orders, keeping scope, contracts, purchase orders, and invoices aligned.
  • Experience with facilities, real estate, or construction purchasing, including milestone or progress billing and receiving against physical delivery.
  • Working knowledge of how contract review, privacy and security review, and financial controls work together in a purchase, with sound judgment about when to advance or slow a request.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • A field of study relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with office build-outs, leases, or fixed-asset purchasing, including furniture, fixtures, and equipment, and work alongside Lease Accounting or Fixed Assets.
  • Experience buying physical security services or systems, such as guard services, access control, or video surveillance.
  • Experience with recruiting agencies, contingent workforce, or HR and benefits vendors, including privacy review involving employee and candidate data.
  • Background in accounting, accounts payable, or month-end close.
  • Direct experience with Zip, Workday Financials, and Ironclad.
  • Prior ownership of month-end accrual review or open purchase-order reconciliation for a large, variable-spend portfolio.
  • Experience designing tiered intake or approval frameworks that accelerate low-risk purchases without weakening controls.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a high volume of purchase requests, statements of work, change orders, and renewals across Workplace, Security, and People.
  • Guide requesters from initial request through signed agreement and issued purchase order.
  • Review purchase requests for vendor and contracting-entity accuracy, complete commercial documentation, spend categorization, service dates, and required approvals.
  • Determine and coordinate required reviews, including statement-of-work, amendment, lease, privacy, and third-party risk reviews.
  • Partner with Privacy, Security, and Third Party Risk for vendors handling employee or candidate data or accessing physical offices, and ensure required reviews are completed before services go live.
  • Coordinate contract review with Legal and outside counsel, track progress, and confirm executed agreements support purchase orders.
  • Structure purchase orders to reflect vendor billing terms and accounting needs, including the correct GL account, cost center, and service period on each line.
  • Manage purchase-order change orders, renewals, and closures throughout the agreement lifecycle.
  • Handle purchasing requirements for physical goods and work, including multi-line quotes, deposits, lead times, receiving, and asset handoffs for furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Help requesters determine whether spend should be handled through Procurement and a purchase order or paid by card.
  • Code purchase orders correctly at creation and account for capitalized build-outs and equipment, operating spend, deposits, prepaids, and lease versus non-lease costs.
  • Work with Accounting on complex purchasing and accounting cases, including progress billing, retainage, partially delivered milestones, variable guard-service schedules, placement fees, credits, true-ups, and mid-month change orders.
  • Interpret contract terms, including term, termination for convenience, and notice periods, so firm-commitment reporting reflects actual exposure.
  • Own the open purchase-order book, including recording receipts against actual delivery, periodic reviews, stale-line cleanup, coding corrections, and timely closures.
  • Review portfolio month-end accruals, gather estimates from vendors and budget owners for variable spend, and confirm or correct proposed amounts.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice holds, purchase-order mismatches, and receiving questions.
  • Support audits and reporting requests, including commitment schedules and control evidence.
  • Respond to purchasing questions through team Slack channels and office hours, escalate blockers with context, and explain purchasing policies and requirements.
  • Translate procurement, legal, privacy, and finance requirements into plain language and account for teams’ operating constraints when planning purchases.
  • Hold regular check-ins with high-volume teams to identify upcoming office projects, renewals, staffing changes, and recruiting searches.
  • Maintain portfolio playbooks, intake guidance, and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify and improve manual steps, recurring questions, and failure points, including opportunities to use Claude and workflow automation.
