About The Position

Optum Insight is seeking an experienced Process Reengineering Sr Solution Engineer to modernize existing processes and systems using generative AI and cloud technologies. The role develops prototypes and reference implementations using technologies such as large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic AI, LangGraph, and LangChain, and helps implement scalable, reliable solutions in production.

The position coordinates engineering workloads and mentors team members while collaborating with operations, product, architecture, and quality management stakeholders. It engages directly with pharmacists to understand operational challenges and partners with capability leaders to co-design solutions. The role contributes to Pharmacy Modernization initiatives that use AI to reduce manual work, accelerate delivery, and improve Net Promoter Score.

The position is remote within the U.S. Employees hired in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area must work in the office at least four days per week. The role works Eastern Time Zone hours and participates in scheduled on-call rotations. Remote employees must follow UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy.

Requirements

• 10+ years of IT experience, including at least 5 years in consulting with top four consulting organizations.
• 10+ years of industry or academic experience in AI/ML or Data Science.
• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure management, application design, architecture, or application delivery.
• 5+ years of experience in legacy modernization, cloud modernization, and process reengineering.
• 5+ years of experience with Python and version control tools such as GitHub.
• 5+ years of experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• 4+ years of experience deploying AI/ML solutions in production environments.
• 2+ years of AI-enabled process modernization experience across broad business areas or lines of business.
• Deep experience with at least one hyperscaler; Google Cloud is preferred.
• Deep experience in cloud-adjacent areas such as data engineering, AI, or process improvement.
• Ability to coordinate engineering workloads, mentor team members, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Ability to work Eastern Time Zone hours and participate in scheduled on-call rotations.

Nice To Haves

• Certifications in AI/ML or related technologies, Google Cloud, and AI tools such as Anthropic or OpenAI.
• Industry or academic experience in AI/ML or Data Science.
• Experience with Python and version control tools such as GitHub.
• Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience deploying AI/ML solutions in production environments.
• Experience with Git management and CI/CD best practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop an AI-first vision for modernizing existing systems and build prototypes using AI tools.
• Build solution architectures, prototypes, and reference implementations using generative AI technologies, including LLMs, RAG, and agentic AI.
• Develop and implement solutions in production environments, focusing on scalability and reliability.
• Design client-ready materials and present to clients or facilitate cloud strategy and architecture discussions.
• Manage intake, coordination, and execution of engineering workloads.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers to build team capability.
• Influence cross-functional teams and drive alignment across enterprise initiatives.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Operations, Product, Architecture, and Quality Management.
• Communicate clearly to align technical and business goals.
• Contribute to Pharmacy Modernization efforts aligned with enterprise strategy.
