Principal Product Manager - Financial Platform

BitGo•Palo Alto, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

BitGo is hiring a Senior- or Principal-level product manager to own the strategy and roadmap for its financial and accounting platform. The platform makes financial data accurate and auditable across products, legal entities, and jurisdictions, including ledger and sub-ledger integrity, reconciliation, fees and revenue, client reporting, general-ledger feeds, and financial close. The role translates accounting requirements into scalable, self-service product capabilities used by product, engineering, finance, and compliance teams. The position focuses on the financial complexity of digital assets, including on-chain activity, custody structures, staking, tokenized assets, and settlement. The product manager will establish standards and data contracts across products and entities, embed SOX and other internal controls into the platform, and support regulatory reporting, books-and-records obligations, and audit readiness. They will also improve month- and quarter-end close efficiency and establish metrics to measure platform performance. The role works closely with finance and accounting leadership, engineering, product teams, compliance, legal, risk, internal and external audit, and commercial and client teams. The position is full-time onsite at BitGo’s Palo Alto office. At the Principal level, the person is expected to have set platform strategy and standards adopted by multiple teams, and to work independently with finance and audit leadership.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of product management experience, including at least 3 years building or scaling platform products used by multiple internal or external teams.
  • Accounting or finance foundation, such as a CPA or equivalent, an accounting degree, or hands-on experience in financial reporting, audit, controllership, or accounting systems.
  • Ability to read a trial balance, follow a journal entry through a ledger, and discuss revenue recognition or reconciliation with a controller.
  • Experience building scalable platforms such as ledgers, billing, payments, reporting, or data infrastructure.
  • Experience in a regulated financial environment, including work with auditors, examiners, SOX controls, or control programs.
  • Technical credibility with engineers, including ability to follow architecture discussions, pressure-test estimates, and write precise requirements for data-heavy systems.
  • Professional crypto or digital-asset experience is required; passion projects with breadth and depth across digital assets may also be considered.
  • Clear writing skills, with a writing-first approach to specifications, data flow maps, and decision documents.
  • Ability to coordinate across engineering, finance, and compliance without positional authority and focus on outcomes rather than process.

Nice To Haves

  • For Principal-level candidates, typically 9 or more years of product management experience.
  • At Principal level, prior experience setting platform strategy and standards adopted by other teams.
  • Familiarity with SQL and financial data pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver the financial data and accounting platform roadmap, including ledger and sub-ledger integrity, reconciliation, fee and revenue calculation, client reporting, general-ledger feeds, and financial close capabilities.
  • Translate SOX and internal control requirements into product capabilities in partnership with finance, internal audit, and external auditors; own requirements, plans, and timelines for control-related builds.
  • Set platform standards, interfaces, and data contracts so new products, asset types, legal entities, and acquisitions can integrate without bespoke accounting workarounds.
  • Partner with compliance, legal, and risk to support regulatory reporting, books-and-records requirements, and examiner and auditor requests.
  • Create and manage dated plans tied to audit, regulatory, and reporting deadlines, and flag timeline risks early.
  • Reduce manual effort, elapsed time, and risk in month-end and quarter-end close.
  • Establish and track platform metrics such as reconciliation breaks, close duration, audit adjustments, manual journal volume, and time to onboard a new product.
  • Map how major products’ financial activity reaches the general ledger, identifying and prioritizing manual steps and gaps.
  • Agree on a dated platform roadmap with finance, engineering, and compliance, incorporating external deadlines.
  • Deliver a high-impact platform capability end to end, such as automated reconciliation for a key product.
  • Coordinate across engineering, finance, compliance, product, audit, and client-facing teams without relying on positional authority.

  • Competitive base salary, bonus, and stock options.
  • 100% company-paid health insurance for the employee, partner, and dependents.
  • Up to 4% 401(k) company match.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Paid vacation.
  • Free commuter or parking pass.
  • Free custom lunches and snacks.
