Principal Product Manager - Financial Platform

BitGo•New York, NY
•$230,000 - $260,000•Onsite

About The Position

BitGo is hiring a Senior- or Principal-level product manager to own the strategy and roadmap for its financial and accounting platform. The platform must ensure accurate, trustworthy financial data across products, legal entities, jurisdictions, and digital asset types, supporting ledger and sub-ledger integrity, reconciliation, fee and revenue calculations, client reporting, general-ledger feeds, and financial close processes. The role translates accounting requirements into scalable, auditable, self-service product capabilities for product, engineering, finance, and compliance teams. The position requires full-time onsite work at BitGo’s New York, NY office. At the Principal level, the person will independently set cross-product platform standards and maintain working relationships with finance and audit leadership. The role partners across engineering, finance and accounting, product, compliance, legal, risk, audit, commercial, and client teams. Success includes mapping how major products’ financial activity reaches the general ledger, establishing an agreed and dated roadmap that accounts for external deadlines, and shipping a high-impact capability that measurably reduces manual work or control risk.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of product management experience, typically 9 or more years for Principal-level candidates.
  • At least 3 years building or scaling platform products used by multiple internal or external teams.
  • For Principal-level candidates, prior experience setting platform strategy and standards adopted by other teams.
  • An accounting or finance foundation, such as a CPA or equivalent, an accounting degree, or hands-on experience in financial reporting, audit, controllership, or accounting systems.
  • Ability to read a trial balance, follow a journal entry through a ledger, and discuss revenue recognition or reconciliation with a controller.
  • Experience building scalable platforms such as ledgers, billing, payments, reporting, or data infrastructure; ability to think in data models, interfaces, and reuse.
  • Experience in a regulated financial environment, including work with auditors, examiners, SOX controls, or control programs, and understanding of public-company obligations.
  • Technical credibility with engineers, including ability to follow architecture discussions, pressure-test estimates, and write precise requirements for data-heavy systems.
  • Professional crypto or digital-asset experience is required; passion projects with breadth and depth across digital assets may qualify for candidates without professional experience.
  • Clear writing skills and a writing-first approach, using artifacts such as specifications, data-flow maps, and decision documents.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively across engineering, finance, and compliance without relying on positional authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with SQL and financial data pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver the financial data and accounting platform roadmap, including ledger and sub-ledger integrity, balance and activity reconciliation, fee and revenue calculation, client reporting, general-ledger feeds, and financial close capabilities.
  • Partner with finance, internal audit, and external auditors to translate SOX and internal control requirements into product capabilities; own requirements, plans, and timelines for control-related builds in alignment with the audit calendar.
  • Set platform standards, interfaces, and data contracts so new products, asset types, legal entities, and acquisitions use shared platform capabilities rather than bespoke accounting workarounds.
  • Work with compliance, legal, and risk to support regulatory reporting, books-and-records requirements, and examiner and auditor requests; manage dated plans against external deadlines and flag schedule risks early.
  • Improve month-end and quarter-end close by reducing manual effort, elapsed time, and risk.
  • Establish and monitor platform success metrics, including reconciliation breaks, close duration, audit adjustments, manual journal volume, and time to onboard a new product.
  • Document how major products’ financial activity reaches the general ledger, identifying and prioritizing manual steps and gaps.
  • Agree on a dated platform roadmap with finance, engineering, and compliance that includes audit, regulatory, and reporting deadlines.
  • Ship an end-to-end, high-impact platform capability that measurably reduces manual work or control risk.
  • Translate finance and accounting leadership’s requirements into platform capabilities and make the product the system of record.
  • Partner with engineering on sequencing, platform design, and tradeoffs, and coordinate across teams without positional authority.
