About The Position

The Principal Product Manager will own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for commerce catalog APIs—including product, offer, and Product Graph data—that power Copilot, Bing, Edge, and external AI partners. The role defines what the catalog exposes, to whom, and at what quality bar, and turns coverage and quality gaps into a prioritized plan that improves shopping answers and actions. This is a senior individual-contributor position working independently with a large, experienced engineering and applied science team. The position covers catalog quality and coverage, API schemas and versioning, documentation, freshness, latency, availability, data rights, merchant controls, attribution, and privacy, security, and Responsible AI requirements. It also leads partner readiness, catalog supply and ingestion, quality measurement and evaluation, strategic alignment, and go-to-market efforts. The role calls for deep familiarity with catalogs and product data, technical fluency, and the ability to influence across organizational boundaries and with external partners. AI Experiences employees living within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft Hub in the U.S. are expected to work from the office at least four days per week, subject to local law and jurisdiction. The position is listed as Product Management IC6. The typical U.S. base pay range is USD $165,600–$296,400 per year; the range for the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area is USD $220,800–$331,200 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled, and the posting will remain open for at least five days.

Responsibilities

  • Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for catalog APIs covering product, offer, and Product Graph data, including schemas, versioning, documentation, and consumer-specific coverage, freshness, latency, and availability standards.
  • Define what catalog data is exposed and to whom, including data-rights boundaries, merchant controls and exclusions, attribution, and Responsible AI, privacy, and security requirements in partnership with Legal, Privacy, and Security.
  • Drive partner and developer onboarding, evaluation criteria, usage and quality telemetry, and staged progression from offline evaluation through limited pilots to production traffic.
  • Work with engineering and applied science leaders to prioritize measurable catalog coverage and quality improvements across demand coverage, product identity and clustering, attributes and metadata, taxonomy, price and availability accuracy, and freshness.
  • Own the import and ingestion roadmap with engineering, including merchant feeds and commerce platform connectors, to ensure new supply is complete, accurate, and fresh.
  • Define success metrics and evaluation frameworks for catalog and API quality, ensure the required telemetry exists, and use results to guide investment and tradeoffs.
  • Synthesize telemetry, evaluations, partner and merchant feedback, and industry trends into product roadmap decisions; serve as a subject matter expert on catalog and product data across divisional boundaries.
  • Write strategy documents, PRDs, and release criteria, review them with senior leaders, and align stakeholders across MAI and partner teams on priorities and tradeoffs.
  • Lead a large, senior engineering team as an individual contributor; prioritize the backlog, make difficult tradeoffs, identify capabilities to deprecate, and manage transitions without disrupting consumers.
