About The Position

Raytheon's Receiver/Exciter & Processing Architecture (REPA) Department develops and supports receiver, exciter, beam-steering, and signal-processing technology. The Principal Hardware Design Engineer will apply experience in digital and analog hardware and subsystem design to develop and produce radar receiver, exciter, and transmitter subsystems. The role includes designing mixed-signal hardware for new and existing products, working with systems, mechanical, manufacturing, and electrical engineers on design trades and requirements flow-down, performing electrical analysis, developing test plans, and delivering hardware that meets program requirements. The engineer will also provide technical support during transition to production and production activities. Opportunities may include leading small projects or processes. The position is first shift and 100% onsite in Tewksbury or Marlborough, Massachusetts, with travel between Massachusetts sites anticipated and occasional travel to supplier, integration, or customer sites. Relocation may be available based on candidate eligibility. An active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance is required before starting; the posting also specifies the ability to obtain an interim clearance before the start date. U.S. citizenship is required.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a STEM degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Combined experience in at least two of the following: digital design from requirements development through build and test; RF/analog design from requirements development through build and test; or production testing and troubleshooting circuits.
  • Experience with design simulation tools such as HyperLynx or LTSpice and analytical tools such as Matlab.
  • Experience with design development tools such as Mentor Graphics' Xpedition schematic capture and layout.
  • Experience leading a complete design or a small team to complete a design.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an interim Secret U.S. government security clearance before the start date; U.S. citizenship is required.

  • Experience with high-speed digital interfaces such as JESD204B, DDR3/DDR4 memory, SERDES, 10G+ Ethernet, and Fiber Channel.
  • Background in FPGA hardware inference designs, including SERDES and LVDS chip-to-chip and board-to-board.
  • Experience allocating and flowing down requirements from the system to the component level.
  • Experience with cost estimating and budget and schedule management.
  • Laboratory experience using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, phase noise analyzers (PNA), and spectrum analyzers to test and verify digital and mixed-signal circuits and systems.
  • Experience in a production environment.
  • Experience in technical writing, proposal writing, and oral presentations.
  • Active or existing Secret U.S. security clearance.
  • Team leadership skills, cost and schedule management, and proposal writing and presentation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform circuit and subsystem architecture, design, modeling, simulation, and verification.
  • Integrate and test at component, circuit card assembly (CCA), and subsystem levels.
  • Support transition to production and provide technical support to manufacturing and test engineers.
  • Collaborate with systems, mechanical, manufacturing, and electrical engineers on design trades and requirements flow-down.
  • Perform electrical analysis and develop test plans to deliver hardware that meets program requirements.
  • Provide technical support for production builds and production activities.
  • Occasionally travel to supplier, integration, and customer sites; travel between Massachusetts work sites is anticipated.
