Principal Hardware Design Engineer

RTX•Marlborough, MA
•$107,500 - $204,500•Onsite

About The Position

Raytheon's Receiver/Exciter & Processing Architecture (REPA) Department designs, develops, integrates, supports production builds, and provides lifecycle support for receiver, exciter, beam-steering, and signal-processing technologies. The Principal Hardware Design Engineer will use experience in digital and analog hardware and subsystem design to develop and produce radar receiver, exciter, and transmitter subsystems. The role applies knowledge of Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs) to design products used in signal processing, command, and control. The position includes mixed-signal hardware design for new and existing products, collaborating with systems, mechanical, manufacturing, and electrical engineers on design trades, requirements flow-down, electrical analysis, test plans, and delivery of hardware that meets program requirements. The engineer also supports transition to production and production activities. Opportunities may include leading small projects or processes; cost and schedule management, proposal writing, and presentation experience are desired. This is a first-shift, 100% onsite role based in Tewksbury or Marlborough, Massachusetts, with anticipated travel between Massachusetts sites and occasional travel to supplier, integration, and customer sites. Relocation may be offered based on eligibility. An active and transferable U.S. government-issued clearance is required before the start date; the position requires the ability to obtain an interim Secret clearance, and U.S. citizenship is required.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a STEM degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Combined experience in two or more of the following: digital design from requirements development through build and test; RF/analog design from requirements development through build and test; or production testing and troubleshooting of circuits.
  • Experience with design simulation tools such as HyperLynx or LTSpice and analytical tools such as Matlab.
  • Experience with design development tools such as Mentor Graphics' Xpedition schematic capture and layout.
  • Experience leading a complete design or a small team through design completion.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an interim Secret U.S. government-issued security clearance before the start date.
  • U.S. citizenship, as required for eligibility for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience interfacing and testing with digital-to-analog converters (D/A) and analog-to-digital converters (A/D).
  • Experience with high-speed digital interfaces such as JESD204B, DDR3/DDR4 memory, SERDES, 10G+ Ethernet, or Fiber Channel.
  • Background in FPGA hardware inference designs, including SERDES and LVDS chip-to-chip and board-to-board.
  • Experience allocating and flowing down requirements from system to component level.
  • Experience with cost estimating and budget and schedule management.
  • Laboratory experience using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, phase noise analyzers (PNA), and spectrum analyzers to test and verify digital and mixed-signal circuits and systems.
  • Experience in a production environment.
  • Experience in technical writing, proposal writing, and oral presentations.
  • Active or existing Secret U.S. security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform circuit and subsystem architecture, design, modeling, simulation, and verification.
  • Integrate and test hardware at component, CCA, and subsystem levels.
  • Support transition to production and provide technical support to manufacturing and test engineers.
  • Collaborate with systems, mechanical, manufacturing, and electrical engineers on design trades, requirements flow-down, electrical analysis, test plans, and delivery of compliant hardware.
  • Provide occasional travel to supplier, integration, and customer sites, and travel between Massachusetts sites.
  • Potentially manage small projects or processes within the area of responsibility.
