About The Position

The Press Brake Operator forms parts by bending them using one of the company’s two press brake machines. The role works closely with laser operators, the parts breakdown team, and shipping to meet or exceed Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Delivery goals. The operator reviews job specifications, processes and inspects materials, maintains equipment, documents work, and moves materials as needed. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, on the first shift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Plant 2 in Wichita, Kansas.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to meet or exceed Level 4 (Heavy Work) of a Personal Capacity Profile.
• 0–5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Adequate manual and finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multilimbed coordination.
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions applicable to work situations.
• Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram-based instructions.
• Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, or using measurements of length, width, height, and weight, and correctly performing basic math computations.
• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
• Ability to make sound decisions using knowledge, experience, and judgment.
• Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally and 60 pounds repetitively.
• Ability to stand for sustained periods.
• Ability to push or pull 80 pounds of force.
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, internal customers, and/or vendors.
• Ability to obtain certification to operate all required motorized material-handling and rigging equipment.
• Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications.
• Ability to work in temperatures above 100°F and below 32°F.

Responsibilities

• Review and follow blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions, and other written specifications to understand the machining characteristics of metals.
• Determine processing specifications, including materials, forms, sizes, surface conditions, defects, dimensions, tolerances, and operating sequences.
• Verify that the correct material is used for each job according to work orders.
• Coordinate and execute material handling.
• Position work pieces for processing and operate a combination of machines as needed.
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and material on machines.
• Select and monitor machine speeds, feeds, controls, and tooling.
• Determine the sequence of operations for different materials and operating conditions.
• Create complicated or irregularly shaped parts according to drawings, using careful blocking and clamping to prevent springing or distortion.
• Operate a variety of machines during processing as required by workload or business needs.
• Measure and examine pieces with precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales, and squares to verify conformance to work order specifications.
• Perform in-process and finished-product quality control inspections.
• Clean equipment according to designated maintenance procedures.
• Diagnose problems and make necessary adjustments.
• Report irregularities to a supervisor for direction.
• Complete work order paperwork and documentation.
• Mark identification on materials or work pieces before or after processing when needed.
• Move material between production areas, storage, or other designated areas using a forklift, side loader, or crane.
• Adhere to and ensure compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.
