About The Position

The Westwood Preschool exists to provide opportunities for children to learn and grow socially, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically in God’s grace, spilled out to them through people and programs that will foster and nurture God’s love for them. This role involves serving as either a Lead Teacher or an Assistant Teacher, planning, preparing, and implementing preschool curriculum objectives, and providing a positive and nurturing environment for preschool-aged children.

Requirements

  • Meet Preschool teaching qualifications set by State of Minnesota.
  • Someone who lives a life that honors God in heart, actions, and relationships, with the goal of becoming more like Jesus.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and church community.
  • Knowledge of and the capacity to provide engaging preschool activities and experiences for children in which they will grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, cognitively, and physically.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
  • Ability to relate to other Westwood staff and church attenders at large.
  • Endorse and support Westwood’s Statement of Faith.
  • 3+ years teaching experience in early childhood (Lead Teacher role).
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children (Assistant Teacher role).
  • Two years or more of post-secondary education, preferably in child development, elementary education, or family studies (Assistant Teacher role, preferred).

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. in education is preferred (Lead Teacher role).
  • Two or more years of experience as an early childhood instructional assistant or student intern, preferred (Assistant Teacher role).
  • Meet preschool teaching qualifications set by the State of Minnesota, preferred (Assistant Teacher role).

Responsibilities

  • Provide activities to nurture the spiritual, emotional, social, cognitive, and physical needs of preschool-aged children.
  • Establish and maintain standards of child behavior appropriate to preschool children to achieve a positive learning environment.
  • Assist children with self-help skill development including: coats, bags, toileting, etc.
  • Assist children and parents in car line during arrival and departure.
  • Follow prepared lesson plans and instructional materials as part of a planned learning experience for preschool students.
  • Supervise Assistant Teacher (Lead Teacher role).
  • Prepare and clean up snack for the classroom (Assistant Teacher role).
  • Take attendance as students arrive (Assistant Teacher role).
  • Provide constant and consistent supervision of the children.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in educational staff development and/or in-service activities.
  • Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the Preschool Director.
