About The Position

The Preschool Substitute works as a Lead Teacher or Assistant Teacher in Westwood Preschool in Chanhassen. The preschool provides opportunities for children to grow socially, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically in an environment shaped by God’s grace and love. The Lead Teacher plans, prepares, and implements curriculum objectives established in the Westwood Preschool Operations Manual. The Assistant Teacher supports implementation of those objectives. Both roles provide consistent supervision, help foster developmentally appropriate learning, and align with Westwood’s staff culture and mission to know God and share Jesus through loving others.

Requirements

Lead Teachers must meet preschool teaching qualifications set by the State of Minnesota.
Lead Teachers need at least 3 years of early childhood teaching experience.
Assistant Teachers need experience working with preschool-aged children.
Lead and Assistant Teachers should live in a way that honors God in heart, actions, and relationships, with the goal of becoming more like Jesus.
Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and the church community.
Knowledge of and capacity to provide engaging preschool activities and experiences that support children’s spiritual, emotional, social, cognitive, and physical growth.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
Ability to relate to other Westwood staff and church attenders at large.
Endorse and support Westwood’s Statement of Faith.

Nice To Haves

A Bachelor of Science degree in education is preferred for Lead Teachers.
For Assistant Teachers, two or more years of experience as an early childhood instructional assistant or student intern is preferred.
For Assistant Teachers, meeting preschool teaching qualifications set by the State of Minnesota is preferred.
For Assistant Teachers, two or more years of post-secondary education, preferably in child development, elementary education, or family studies, is preferred.

Responsibilities

As a Lead Teacher, plan, prepare, and implement preschool curriculum objectives established in the Westwood Preschool Operations Manual.
As a Lead Teacher, provide activities that nurture preschool-aged children’s spiritual, emotional, social, cognitive, and physical needs.
As a Lead Teacher, establish and maintain appropriate child behavior standards to create a positive learning environment.
As a Lead Teacher, assist children with self-help skills, including coats, bags, and toileting.
As a Lead Teacher, assist children and parents in the car line during arrival and departure.
As a Lead Teacher, follow prepared lesson plans and instructional materials as part of planned learning experiences.
As a Lead Teacher, supervise the Assistant Teacher.
As an Assistant Teacher, assist with activities that nurture preschool-aged children’s spiritual, emotional, social, cognitive, and physical needs.
As an Assistant Teacher, prepare and clean up classroom snacks.
As an Assistant Teacher, assist children with self-help skills, including coats, bags, and toileting.
As an Assistant Teacher, assist children and parents in the car line during arrival and departure, and take attendance as students arrive.
As an Assistant Teacher, establish and maintain appropriate child behavior standards to create a positive learning environment.
As an Assistant Teacher, help facilitate developmentally appropriate learning experiences for preschool children.
As a Lead or Assistant Teacher, provide constant and consistent supervision of children.
As a Lead or Assistant Teacher, maintain professional competence by participating in educational staff development and/or in-service activities.
As a Lead or Assistant Teacher, carry out other responsibilities assigned by the Preschool Director.
