About The Position

Working under a provider’s direction, the Practice Registered Nurse performs general nursing functions for the practice. The role includes assessing patients, documenting information in medical records, supporting providers, educating patients and families, coordinating care, and triaging patient calls. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week on first shift at Bronson OBGYN on Centre Street in Kalamazoo. External candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 and a $5,000 retention bonus.

Requirements

Diploma, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
Licensed RN in good standing with the State of Michigan.
BLS certification.
Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and prioritization skills; ability to handle information confidentially.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, doctors, and other staff, and to maintain patient confidentiality.
Ability to work independently and function as an integral member of a healthcare team.
Excellent computer skills and ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems.
Ability to perform work requiring sustained alertness and concentration, including interactive or repetitive detailed work and computer or CRT use for 40–70% of the time.
Ability to regularly lift bulky or moderately heavy weights up to 50 pounds and occasionally assist with heavier tasks or exert equivalent effort pushing, pulling, or handling objects.

6–12 months of healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepare for patient appointments, review charts, and ensure requested documents are available.
Prepare patients for examinations by completing assessments, obtaining histories and vital signs, reconciling medications, and performing routine tests as applicable.
Provide initial assessments of patients’ conditions to physicians as needed.
Triage patient calls, determine urgency and the need for appointments, and assess whether phone advice is sufficient.
Assist providers with minor and emergency procedures and examinations, follow physician instructions, and reassure patients during examinations.
Schedule tests and procedures in other departments or facilities under provider direction, prepare patients with appropriate instructions, document results, and notify patients of results.
Perform point-of-care laboratory tests as directed by the physician.
Accurately document required information, test results, and assessment results in patient medical records.
Coordinate admissions and referrals and facilitate prescription requests.
Provide patients and families with appropriate education about care under provider direction.
Take verbal, telephone, and written medication orders from physicians; administer or dispense ordered treatments and medications as directed and document them appropriately.
Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
Participate in performance-improvement monitoring, collect and collate quality-of-care data, help ensure care meets appropriate standards, and use improvement results to inform nursing practice.
Communicate pertinent information to other healthcare team members.
Attend required staff, educational, and other meetings; participate in ongoing professional education and maintain records of competency and continuing education.
Assist with miscellaneous forms, including Workers’ Compensation, disability, and State of Michigan forms.
Share knowledge and contribute to colleagues’ professional development.
Stock supplies and maintain examination rooms.
Maintain familiarity with insurance and referral policies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
