About The Position

The Post Doctoral Fellow conducts research projects in synthetic carbohydrate chemistry. A secondary duty is to co-supervise graduate students pursuing degrees in synthetic organic chemistry. The role applies expertise in organic chemistry and solid-supported synthesis to new problems and developments in carbohydrate chemistry as project needs evolve. The appointment is a 12-month research-support position with 40 scheduled weekly hours.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in organic chemistry.
• Experience with polymer-supported oligosaccharide synthesis.
• Ability to design and conduct multistep organic syntheses.
• Ability to isolate and purify reaction products using appropriate chromatographic separation methods.
• Ability to determine product structures using NMR spectral data.
• Ability to work safely and responsibly in a synthetic organic chemistry laboratory.
• Ability to use standard methods for running organic reactions.
• Ability to prepare and track samples.
• Ability to identify literature relevant to the project.
• Ability to prepare scientific publications.

Nice To Haves

• Experience developing new methods for chemical glycosylation.
• Experience with solid-phase organic synthesis.
• Experience with laboratory automation technologies.

Responsibilities

• Carry out organic reactions on a regular and consistent basis to achieve project goals.
• Keep the principal investigator informed about project activities and progress.
• Maintain a complete and accessible laboratory notebook.
• Participate in discussions relevant to the project.
• Share laboratory resources responsibly with others working in the laboratory.
• Assist with preparing publications and presentations arising from the project.
• Maintain a clean and safe laboratory working environment.
• Co-supervise graduate students pursuing degrees in synthetic organic chemistry.
• Apply organic chemistry and solid-supported synthesis background to project needs in carbohydrate chemistry.
